LFS Team

When I began to volunteer at LFS I was really interested to understand what the LFS team do outside of the show.

Leeds Fashion Show is huge! The ladies organise, promote, rehearse, hold model castings, get sponsorship, interview designers...basically they do everything for the show off their own backs and in their spare time which I think is very commendable so this post is a space dedicated to the team.

( Designer/Co-Events Organiser/Volunteer Scout )

Outside of LFS what do you do?

Outside of LFS I work full time as a sales consultant for a contemporary furniture store. When I do get some spare time I am in the process of creating my own lingerie brand Lady M by LadyMorvello.

What's the most extreme thing you've done for fashion?

The most extreme thing I have done for fashion would be wearing wedge platform boots. It doesn't sound extreme but I have fallen down twice while wearing them and injured myself both times, think Naomi Campbell and her infamous fall on the catwalk #cringe

Whats entertaining you?

What entertaining me at the moment is Revenge the american TV series on E4 it's very melodramatic but I love it!

Favourite tipple?

My favourite tipple would be an apple strudel cocktail it's amazing . Which is served in the Evil Eye Lounge in York.

What's your top tip?

Treat people how you would like to be treated.

Outside of LFS what do you do?

I'm currently a support worker for a care agency and as a cover supervisor for an education agency. I'm due to start studying in September for a PGCE secondary textiles and food. I have a four  year old daughter that keep me busy!

What's the most extreme thing you've done for fashion?

Once I wore the most gorgeous pair of shoes that looked fantastic with a dress I bought, but they were the most uncomfortable shoes ever.

Whats entertaining you?

I'm totally into all the Marvel films that have come out recently. Thor is my favourite! I've also subscribed to a show on YouTube called Giogo Show. There videos are entertaining with loads of great fashion tips.

Favourite tipple?

It has to be vodka with fresh lime juice and soda water. Low in calories and delicious!

What's your top tip?

My top tip would be to figure out what your goals and dreams are and everyday spend some time visualising whatever it is you want.

Outside of LFS what do you do?

I work as a planning coordinatoor for Babcock- Rail, it's not very "fashiony" but certainly helps when it comes to the planning side of things. In my spare time I do try and make clothes when I can, which is why I have set up my studio to get back on it!

What's the most extreme thing you've done for fashion?

I can't say Iv'e done anything completely whacky for fashion if I'm honest, so I'm going to say setting up Leeds Fashion Show to rival/sit alongside the industry in London.

Whats entertaining you?

Music (deep house & electro) is keeping me entertained at the minute and not having any internet for a few weeks has proved that- music is the answer!

Favourite tipple?

Baileys on the rocks.

What's your top tip?

Never give up on what you believe in.

Outside of LFS what do you do?

I work part time at Accent Clothing which is a Leeds based independent, my role is Social Media Assistant. I have been part of this team for nearly 10 years now and have had various roles whilst working here. Accent Clothing are the sponsors of the Designer of the Year award for the 3rd year running.

I also manage my brother's website, MicahRichards.com, here I am in charge of the content of the website, this includes his life as a footballer, what he does off the pitch, charity involvement and various other commercial activities.

I also promote various other events including fashion shows, networking gatherings, comedy shows and club nights.

What's the most extreme thing you've done for fashion?

Erm...I haven't done anything that extreme, my style is quite relaxed and simple. Maybe jeans tucked into diamond socks was one of my fashion faux pas' back in my teenage days.

Whats entertaining you?

Right now? I'd probably say Fresh Prince, as I'm sat watching it whilst answering these questions haha! It is my favourite programme!

Favourite tipple?

Hmmmm...has to Brandy with a dash of lemonade.

What's your top tip?

Love what you do and do what you love!

Outside of LFS what do you do?

I am a full time foster carer. I come from a caring family and I’m a very family-orientated person so it felt natural for me to consider fostering children. You sometimes see them achieve things they couldn’t have done before - often it’s just simple life experiences which you can give them.  The reward you get from seeing a child smile and seeing an improvement in them is just immense.

What's the most extreme thing you've done for fashion?

I wore some feet crippling red winkle pickers shoes way back in the early 1980’s, I thought I was the bomb but when I look back at pictures, I think who let me out of the house like that and did I not have friends.

Whats entertaining you?

Omg I am going to sound really boring, but I love to read. I have so many books I am in danger of turning into a hoarder. I started my collection when I was about 12 years old after reading The Greatest Gresham. That was it my love affair with books began and that's where all my pocket money went. I have such a hunger for knowledge that I’ll read anything. Sometimes I am too physically busy to sit down and read. I get audio books from the library for the car, my form of wash and go… read on the go!

Favourite tipple?

I don’t drink, but if there was an alcoholic strawberry & white chocolate milkshake, I could be tempted too.

What's your top tip?

Be an individual, wear what works for your body shape and rock it.
