Kate Phelan, previous fashion director of British Vogue, and leading stylist within the fashion world, became the creative director for Topshop back in 2011. Phelan has formerly styled gorgeous campaign imagery for a number of years for Topshop, along with designer Jane Shepherdson. Phelan's influence has really pushed Topshop as a brand to become the heavy weight it is today within the fashion industry. We are able to see the stylists influence on this collection, Phelan's Topshop Unique show, presented a stunning assortment of clothing.
I absolutely love the irony of how typically high street fashion is trickled down from the catwalk, but now the high street has joined the catwalk and I believe it truly belongs there with the best of the best. This collection only proved this.
The pieces looked very attainable but still very beautiful. The silhouette being one of a confident streamlined shape, aided with gorgeous sheer, loose fabrics looked very fresh and modern for SS13. The monochromatic palette I also loved, usually we see lots of bright colours throughout the Spring Summer collections, but I love to see the more subdued, fresh, classic colours for SS13, very sophisticated. The collection showed lots of casual, easy pieces and although the garments looked relaxed the subtle details of diagonal zipped dresses, graphic prints, and gorgeous fabrics demonstrated Phelan's great knowledge of fashion and highlighted her stylist background for Topshop Unique.
